LOGICACMG DELIVERS EXPORT SUCCESS IN EMISSION MANAGEMENT
Australian system to manage greenhouse gas emissions in Europe
Sydney, Australia, April 22, 2004 – Leading global solutions company, LogicaCMG in partnership with Queensland-based CarbonSIM, one of the world’s leading developers of greenhouse gas emissions trading platforms and software, launches Emissions Logic™, a software package solution which enables Enterprises to capture, analyse and control the vast array of issues related to greenhouse gas emissions management.
The software was developed in response to a number of different agreements and regulations intended to reduce the level of global greenhouse gas emissions. LogicaCMG and CarbonSIM expect Emissions Logic™, to gain a significant share of the European emission software market this year.
As a result of legislation and public expectation, more than 14,000 installations in Europe and many more around the world will have to quantify, track and manage their greenhouse gas emissions and compliance. Analysts forecast this market will be worth €30 billion by 2010. Each of these companies will require an emissions and compliance management software package to do so.
LogicaCMG jointly developed the Emissions Logic software with CarbonSim under the Queensland Smart State initiative. The development team was made up of local environmental engineers, economists, LogicaCMG software developers and programmers in Queensland.
The European Union (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) will come into effect on 1 January 2005. The EU is an enthusiastic supporter of the Kyoto protocol, and with the EU ETS coming into effect European energy companies will need new systems to manage this change. Current systems and processes were not designed with the ETS in mind. Emissions Logic™, will allow organisations to confidently and cost-effectively manage their obligations, liabilities and assets created by the EU ETS with the following capabilities:
• Emissions Inventory Manager – tracks the amount of greenhouse gases the company is emitting/generating. • Scenario Planner – provides companies with various options on how to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. • Compliance Manager – tracks the amount the company is emitting and compares it to the amount it is allowed to emit. • Audit, Reporting & Administration – gives companies a clear record of its compliance with the ETS scheme to report to its national registry.
Mike Duke, state manager Queensland, LogicaCMG, said: “We anticipate that Emissions Logic™, could reduce the cost of management, administration and third party auditing and reporting by as much as 30%. We used LogicaCMG and CarbonSIM’s combined forty years of experience to create a purpose-built emissions management solution here in Queensland.”
“This partnership capitalises on CarbonSIM’s environmental expertise and LogicaCMG’s knowledge of the energy and utilities sector. This Australian-developed solution will have applications globally as countries strive to meet emissions management targets.”
LogicaCMG in Australia developed and currently operates the Registry for the NSW Government’s Greenhouse Abatement scheme for the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal of New South Wales in Australia.

Increasing use of encryption has created new challenges for enterprise security managers. Ever more-sophisticated encryption such as Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) protects data and may even boost your Google ranking – but it also provides a haven for malicious code that may use encryption to bypass enterprise security controls.
Why nation-state attacks are everyone’s problem
