40% of Consumers Read Privacy Policies

Before providing Web sites with their personal information, 40% of consumers read privacy statements. While most online consumers (82%) are willing to trade personal information for rewards or benefits, few (30%) said privacy statements are easily understandable. By 2006, online retailers will lose $US24.5 billion in sales because of their failure to address consumers’ fears about online privacy.
