NetApp NetCache 6.0 software provides innovative security benefits for evolving enterprise Internet usage

Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) has announced NetApp NetCache 6.0 software to further enhance and strengthen its market-leading Internet access and security solution. NetCache 6.0 software helps guard against security threats, expands support for industry-leading security partners, minimises virus and hacking risks, and accelerates and improves management of customers’ Web and application information.

“NetCache 6.0 offers our enterprise customers a wide range of new functionality, improving the value of our Internet access and security solution,” said Dave Kresse, Senior Director and General Manager, Content Delivery Business Unit at Network Appliance. “This solution minimises the complexity and cost of managing, addressing and securing enterprise Internet access, access control, URL filtering, antivirus and other security issues. NetCache 6.0 also continues the NetApp tradition of offering broad Web and application delivery capabilities, so customers can leverage their investment to accelerate business applications and enable streaming media across the network. These capabilities are the reason NetApp has been the caching and secure proxy market leader the last two years.”

New Features in NetCache 6.0 Maximise:
Security: Customers benefit from broader security capabilities through a new resale and joint development arrangement with Websense, and enhanced joint development with Secure Computing and Webwasher.
Cost Savings: New services, including proxy support for the SOCKS protocol and authentication support for NTLMv2, allow customers to reduce operating costs by consolidating proxy and authentication servers.
Flexibility: Broadened Web and application delivery services, including strengthened Windows Media 9 capabilities, enable fast, high-quality, feature-rich delivery of streaming media.

“Due to their positioning within enterprise networks and their content monitoring capabilities, proxy caches are an ideal enforcement point for securing Internet access from the growing range of web-based threats,” said Lawrence Orans, Principal Analyst at Gartner.

NetApp NetCache appliances integrate multiple Web security and application delivery technologies into a single platform that is secure, reliable and easy to manage. Both at a customer’s Internet gateway and in distributed locations, NetCache appliances act as a single point of control to help manage access to the Internet and improve Web security and performance. Based on NetCache appliances and best-of-breed security partner software, the NetApp Internet access and security solution integrates advanced proxy, caching, access control and authentication capabilities with software for content filtering, virus-scanning solutions, usage reporting, and more, providing an integrated solution to reduce the cost and improve the security of employee Internet access.
