METRICS: Klez Is No. 1 Virus In 2002

The most prolific computer virus this year was Klez, which accounted for 24 per cent of all viruses detected. Bugbear worm was second with a report rate of 17.5 per cent. The vast majority of viruses reported this year (90 per cent) were mass mailing Windows 32 viruses. Overall, 7,189 new viruses, worms and Trojan horses were detected this year.
