Roswel Pty. Ltd. has been awarded distributorship for the Barracuda Spam Firewall family of solutions in Australia and New Zealand. Managing Director Mr. Paul Wellens said “We recently demonstrated the product at Email, Storage and Internet Security World Exhibitions in Darling Harbour. The response was fantastic with many in the industry saying it was time for an affordable solution to the growing spam problem.”

The Barracuda Spam Firewall comes in four models starting at $3,749 AUD (international model) for up to 1,000 email users, although the unit can be cost effective for as few as 50 email users. The Barracuda Spam Firewall architecture leverages open source spam and virus solutions in conjunction with ten defense layers: denial of service and security protection, IP block list, rate control, virus check with archive decompression, proprietary virus check, user specified rules, spam fingerprint check, intention analysis, spam rule-based scoring, and Bayesian analysis. Barracuda Networks also offers the Energize Update subscription service with no per user fees, this will automatically update the Barracuda Spam Firewall with the latest spam rules and virus definitions hourly.

Additionally, the Barracuda Spam Firewall 400 and 600 models feature individual user settings and provide protection for up to 25,000 users making the Barracuda Spam Firewall ideal for large enterprises and ISPs looking for ways to reduce cost and load on their mail servers. The Barracuda Spam Firewall is compatible with multiple domain names and mail server software including LDAP compatibility. Ease of configuration and ongoing maintenance is another positive, and depending on complexity of the email system the unit can be up and running in less than ten minutes.

From a management perspective, the unit not only decreases the amount of time spent deleting spam per employee each day, it also protects against false positives and reduces data storage costs and backup storage costs. There is also a growing responsibility for management to protect employees from illegal or offensive material and criminal activity.
