MoD lays down cybersecurity challenge to suppliers

CDE to launch £1 million competition to fund automatic threat response systems

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) Centre for Defence Enterprise (CDE) will launch a £1m cyber security competition at an event in London next month.

The CDE funds new high-risk, high-potential research for UK armed forces and national security and is offering up to £1m in fully funded research contracts to deliver automated threat response systems.

Andy Nicholson, CDE's head of supplier engagement, will outline other research funding opportunities at the event, with the MoD looking for innovation in data, situational awareness and communications technologies through its Enduring Challenge Competition.

"The enduring challenge competition is about looking for proposals challenge our thinking and not iterative developments of current technologies," according to the MoD.

The MoD will also use the event to brief attendees on a new cybersecurity model it will introduce for all military contractors next year. Attendees will be able to see the questions and give feedback.

The department hopes the new requirements will ensure suppliers adequately protect data and information generated from MoD contracts.

The event, at De Vere Canary Wharf in London on 9 September, will allow defence SMEs to showcase their work.
