After being announced in the US earlier this year, Symantec’s Backup Exec 3600 makes its way down to Australia.
The backup and data management appliance is a new addition to Symantec’s portfolio, taking an integrated approach by combining backup software and storage hardware into a single device.
Symantec Pacific region vice president and managing director, Brenton Smith, says the vendor has brought Backup Exec 3600 to Australia to enable businesses to overcome data protection and management challenges resulting from “explosive data growth and wide adoption of virtualisation.”
“[It is] an all-in-one platform that centralises backup for physical and virtual environments and maximises performance with end-to-end deduplication, all on a pre-configured device supported by Symantec,” hesaid.
As for the target market for Backup Exec 3600, Smith says it sits comfortable in the mid to large businesses market.
“A mid-sized business with a lot of files to protect will find everything it needs, and so will a larger organisation that needs to protect several virtual servers,” he said.
“Both will find maximum performance, ample capacity and most importantly of all, easy procedures to recover data.”
Keeping it simple
Smith says the solution will stand out in the competitive backup space in Australian due to its simplicity.
“There’s nothing to configure and users don’t need to worry about integration between hardware and software,” he said.
He adds that organisations can set “expert backup policies without being experts in backup” thanks to the way the appliance handles policies and settings.
“Australian businesses will appreciate the peace of mind to be able to stop worrying about backup and instead put their energy into using the data stored on this appliance to build their bottom lines,” Smith added.
Backup Exec 3600 uses RAID 5 technology and is capable of handling up to 5.5 terabytes of data, and off-site or tape backup is also possible.
