<p>SAS Australia and New Zealand’s record 24 per cent profit increase in 2003 was expected to be replicated in 2004 because of a string of new deals signed in 2003 according to Mr Gordon Clubb, SAS’ Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p>The 24 per cent profit increase (and a similar lift in revenue) was after significant investment in people in 2003 and was in line with the announced 20% growth in revenues for SAS across the broader Asia Pacific region.</p>
<p>“We are very pleased with these results, especially considering they were achieved during a period of significant downturn in the global IT industry,” he said.</p>
<p>“This augurs well for our performance in 2004. We expect business investment in IT to pick up and we have already signed a series of new deals and entered a number of strategic distribution and other business partnerships that we are very excited about. More importantly, customers are only now beginning to understand the real potential of a BI platform and their expectations will drive the demand for a true end-to-end BI platform that delivers improved ROI.”</p>
<p>“We also expect 2004 to be a big year for Business Intelligence (BI), with significant changes occurring in the market driven by consolidation – Oracle and PeopleSoft; Hyperion and Brio; Business Objects and Crystal Decisions.”</p>
<p>“As a private company SAS is largely shielded from this kind of activity, meaning we can focus on our customers’ needs and expanding our customer base rather than a distracting corporate restructure.”</p>
<p>“We are also the only provider able to deliver truly effective end-to-end business intelligence solutions, which further differentiates us from our competitors.”</p>
<p>SAS’ ‘end-to-end’ status had resonated in the market, according to Mr Clubb, and resulted in a series of strategic sales in 2003 with Woolworths, AXA Financial Services, Hunter Area Health, the Commonwealth Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, the New Zealand Ministry of Education, the New Zealand Ministry of Social Development, BankWest, Telecom NZ and Telstra.</p>
<p>“The deals cover a broad range of both private and government enterprises and covers industries as diverse as retailing, banking, telecommunications, health and education,” he said.</p>
<p>“This also demonstrates SAS’ flexibility and the importance more and more organisations, big and small, are placing on bringing their management of business intelligence up to a new level.”</p>
<p>He said 2003’s achievements firmly established SAS as the outright leader in the Business Intelligence software marketplace in Australia and New Zealand.</p>
<p>“We continue to gain the benefits of our extensive R&amp;D investments, which occur because we are a private company and can channel revenue into this area of the business rather than catering to the short-term interests of shareholders.”</p>
<p>“We also expect our business to grow substantially following the delivery of the SAS®9 platform. With SAS®9, we no longer talk about Business Intelligence (BI), but true Enterprise Intelligence. With increasing volumes of data, growing regulatory and compliance drivers (such as Basel II for Banks and the new International Accounting Standards) we are seeing customer’s expectations grow. They are starting to understand that BI is not about reporting but end-to-end enterprise wide data management.”</p>
<p>“Our solutions will also help ensure compliance with anti-money laundering regulations and assist with fraud prevention.”</p>
<p>“We have also been successful in Australia and New Zealand because of our financial stability, our strong local presences in these markets and the distribution and other strategic partnership programs we are rolling out.”</p>
<p>Mr. Clubb said that SAS’ Business Intelligence provided a true end to end process, accessing data, storing data and then being able to utilize that data for reporting, forecasting and predicting industry movements and trends.</p>
<p>He added that the investment Australian and New Zealand businesses and governments were making in business intelligence solutions was mirrored by the improved performance and cost saving advances of these organisations.</p>
