In Systems launches pioneering security analyser in Australia

 • 16 July, 2007 11:58

Melbourne – July 16, 2007 – Integrated voice and data network specialist In Systems Pty Ltd has boosted the emerging security analyser market by introducing into Australia the Mu-4000 Security Analyzer, from Mu Security.

The device is deployed by CT Labs, NSS Labs and Ziff Davis test labs among others to verify the robustness and security readiness of IP-based products including network equipment, VOIP systems and security gear.

In Systems Director Peter Long says that growing numbers of real-time media and service deployments present increased opportunities for attackers and unplanned service downtime for network operators.

He cautions: “A dangerous flaw exists in the process of protecting, firewalling and securing networks, that appears to have been overlooked. While protection and assessment tools tend to start with a list of known bugs, vulnerabilities, worms and Trojans, criminals out to compromise commercial and government (especially military) networks, generate new code and new ‘patterns’ that deliberately create and exploit new vulnerabilities. So today’s new vulnerability is today’s unknown vulnerability, or weakness.

“The Mu-4000 Security Analyzer is the industry’s first data protection device capable of addressing this problem.”

An industry first, the Mu-4000 Security Analyzer's Adaptive Analysis innovation allows product developers and their service provider or critical infrastructure customers to broadly analyse any IPv4- or IPv6-based product's attack surface for its security readiness and robustness.

Mu Security's Adaptive Analysis combines hundreds of protocol attack mutations dynamically, using a large number of authentication techniques running over a dozen transport options. This highly customisable approach enables service providers and vendors of security appliances, secure storage systems, triple play provisioning products and consumer point-of-sale products to proactively analyse their unique attack surfaces and remediate a wide range of potentially disruptive vulnerabilities or robustness flaws.

Adaptive Analysis customises the Mu-4000's ability to pinpoint and expedite the remediation of potential zero-day and published vulnerabilities in critical wired and wireless infrastructures, carrier networks and government applications. The extensible Mu-4000 appliance reduces the likelihood of product or service exploits and, ultimately, information theft. Service provider and critical infrastructure users of the Mu-4000 are pro-actively reducing the likelihood of unexpected service downtime causing possible customer churn or loss of revenue.

Frost & Sullivan predicts that VoIP revenue for service operators will grow at more than 40 per cent to over $US8 billion by 2008. Similarly In-Stat predicts business VoIP deployments will grow from 9.9 million in 2006 to 45.8 million deployments in 2010. Yet the company notes that more than 40 per cent of businesses surveyed had no specific plans for securing their VoIP deployments.
