Powered by Adaptec's Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID Controller and RAID 6 Software, IBM's New xSeries 366 will be the Industry's First Available Adaptec SAS-based Server

Sydney, Australia – February 25, 2005 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that IBM's recently launched X3 architecture and eServer xSeries 366 solution incorporates Adaptec's Zero Channel Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controller to deliver industry-leading performance and increased data protection for Intel Xeon processor-based servers. IBM, with its new x366 (see IBM announcement dated 2/22/05), will be the first major vendor to ship a high-performance server built on SAS technology and RAID 6 data protection from Adaptec.

IBM's next-generation Intel-based xSeries server, the x366, has set a performance record for 4-way Intel Xeon processor-based servers using the TPC-C online transaction processing benchmark and offers unprecedented data protection using RAID 6 for maximum fault tolerance against drive failures.

"We have worked closely with IBM in their transition from Ultra320 SCSI to faster, more cost-effective SAS technologies, helping them to achieve the critical time-to-market and feature advantages with the new x366 that the industry has come to expect from IBM," said Ahmet Houssein, VP and general manager of Adaptec.

Adaptec is currently leading the industry transition to Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and this year will deliver the industry's broadest line of SAS products (including host to networked storage solutions) as part of Adaptec's Flexible Storage Architecture (FSA). IBM is currently leveraging Adaptec's AIC-9410W Zero Channel SAS RAID Controller and RAID 6 software as an option for its new x366 server.

Adaptec Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT) provides end-to-end storage solutions that reliably move, manage and protect critical data and digital content. Adaptec provides software and hardware solutions for storage connectivity and data protection, storage networking and networked storage subsystems to leading OEM and distribution channel partners. Adaptec solutions are in use by enterprises, ISPs, medium and small businesses and consumers worldwide. Adaptec is an S&P Small Cap 600 Index member.
