Australia’s Battleground of Offshore Applications Management…

 • 12 March, 2007 10:43

NORTH SYDNEY, 12th March 2007 - IDC's recent research finds Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) a potential leader within the offshore applications management marketplace.

IDC has just released a report titled: The Battleground of Offshore Applications Management - And The Winner Is…; this study analyses the Australian offshore applications management services competitive landscape by examining and comparing a select list of service providers namely Accenture, Cap-Gemini, CGI-AMS, CSC, EDS, HCL Technologies, HP, IBM, Infosys, Satyam, TCS, Unisys and Wipro.

A leadership grid specifically to offshore AM services capability has been presented in this report. The report includes a SWOT analysis on the capabilities of these players has also been presented in the study. Please note that the application management revenues of the players have not been taken into consideration for analysis due to the diversity of the players evaluated in the study.

"Almost 90% of business critical processes are dependent on applications. This is driving recognition that applications management can be used to achieve positive business transformation Organisations must ensure that their application portfolio remains cost effective and functionally competitive versus other firms in the industry. This is becoming one of the key drivers for the uptake of offshore applications management in Australia," said Aprajita Sharma, IDC Research Manager Outsourcing and BPO.

"The competitive landscape within the offshore applications management space is becoming more complex as the Indian offshore players become more competitive and are impacting the ability of the leading Tier 1 players to increase their market share within applications management. Players like TCS have demonstrated exceptional value to customers with a proposition of helping them reinvest cost savings into strategic application and process transformation projects. Positioning of cost savings followed by helping organisations transform their application portfolio seems to have gained better acceptance in the market rather than the other way round," added Ms Sharma.

IDC key findings are:

# Indian players have scored high on the parameters defined. These players also have the advantage of experience, having delivered applications projects globally using the offshore delivery model.
# IBM and Accenture are strongly positioned in the leaders quadrant. These two players have rapidly built their capabilities in the offshore applications management domain and are well aligned with the market opportunity.
# Other traditional outsourcing providers like EDS, CSC or HP are still playing in the legacy quadrant and are focused primarily on onshore applications management deals only. Their stance still seems reactive when positioning their offshore capabilities and they have still not capitalised on their global delivery capabilities as a source of competitive advantage.
