Novell and IBM expose the facts about Linux in free workshop

 • 24 June, 2004 15:37

June 24, 2004: Novell and IBM have joined forces to offer IT professionals a free* one day Linux technical workshop in capital cities across Australia and New Zealand. The workshop offers introductory technical training providing the basic knowledge necessary to investigate the business and enterprise applicability of Linux.

“CIOs are constantly bombarded with information about Linux by their peers and suppliers, but the majority of this information is based on perception, not fact. Novell and IBM have a shared vision around Linux and are committed to helping CIOs understand the strategic advantages of deploying Linux within their organisations,” said David Lenz, Director of Sales and Marketing – Novell Asia Pacific.

In partnership, Novell and IBM designed the workshop to help give IT professionals the facts on Linux and offer a risk free solution in establishing whether Linux can be part of their organisation and their long term IT strategy.

“Linux is positioned to become the first computing environment to truly offer the ability to consolidate to a single business platform – from desktop to server to mainframe. Therefore it is vital that IT departments have clearly defined where or how Linux applies to their organisational IT strategy,” said Mr Lenz.

The one day Linux beginners workshop is targeted at IT professionals and will encompass the basics of installing, configuring, and managing a Linux system - including a standard server implementation, a Linux desktop environment, and Novell Nterprise Linux Services.

“The workshops are already proving to be a huge success. In the first week, more than 500 people have registered with events already sold out in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Wellington,” said Mr Lenz. “Additional dates have been scheduled in these cities to allow for the demand. We are very confident of exceeding our target of 1,000 attendees.”

All attendees will receive a Linux starter kit, including Novell SUSE Linux evaluation software and a detailed student workbook. The workshops will run during July and August across Australia and New Zealand.
