Polycom Announces Native Support of SCCP in Award-winning VSX Video Platform

<p>Unique Polycom VSX Software Upgrade Provides Joint Polycom and Cisco Customers with High Quality Video and Seamless Integration – Making Video a Natural Extension to a Phone Call</p>
<p>SYDNEY, Aust. – June 6, 2006 –Polycom, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLCM), a leading global provider of unified collaborative communications solutions, today announced new versions of its flagship VSX video communications platform that integrate with the Cisco Unified Communications platform through native support of the Skinny Client Control Protocol (SCCP).</p>
<p>The SCCP native support is in response to demand from global customers wanting to simplify and centralize the management of their installed Cisco IP voice and Polycom video systems while providing end-users with high-quality video that is a natural extension to voice calls. Additionally, Polycom’s VSX 3000, VSX 5000, VSX 7000s, VSX 7000e and VSX 8000 desktop and group video systems have met the Cisco Technology Developer Program criteria for interoperability with Cisco Unified CallManager, Version 4.1 and higher.</p>
<p>The Cisco Technology Developer Program sets criteria for interoperability testing by independent third parties and enables leading product and services firms to deploy innovative business solutions. The program provides enterprise or service provider customers with information regarding Cisco Technology Developer Partner products and services that an independent testing facility has tested and found to interoperate with Cisco networking technology.</p>
<p>Unlike other SCCP video solutions which require video hardware to be exchanged, the Polycom SCCP solution is available as a software upgrade, and is free of charge to customers with VSX products currently covered under a Polycom VSX service contract. Customers wanting to purchase new VSX systems with Cisco SCCP integration can now order these systems at current VSX pricing.</p>
<p>By integrating Polycom video natively into the underlying Cisco IP infrastructure, customers have a consistent experience for voice and video due to familiarity with using a telephone. Configuration management and call control are centralized, and both systems share a single dial plan, directory services, and familiar telephony features such as transfer, forward and hold. Since integration is through a software upgrade, customers leverage the systems they have and are able to upgrade functionality as future improvements occur or as their needs change.</p>
<p>"Enterprises are migrating separate voice, video, and data networks onto a single IP network," said Nora Freedman, IP Telephony Research Analyst at IDC. "This migration requires end points that support both emerging standards and proprietary protocols in order for customers to retain flexibility in both end point functionality and infrastructure."</p>

<p>The new Cisco integrated VSX systems are being demonstrated at the annual Polycom Global Partner Conference, which begins today in Arizona. The demonstration, which involves escalating a voice call to video, direct video to video calls, and the use of additional telephony features will also be shown at InfoComm and the Cisco Networkers Conference in June.</p>
<p>“Joint customers have been asking us to expand our integration in the Cisco environment with native support for SCCP,” said Ed Ellett, senior vice president and general manager of the video division at Polycom. “Broadening our Cisco integration to video will help customers who have standardized on Cisco and Polycom protect their investments in existing technology, as well as migrate as needed in the future.”</p>
<p>“We have Polycom video systems throughout the OneNet architecture which spans the state and are used by the Department of Health, the judicial system, the state House of Representatives, as well as by our universities and schools for distance learning and professional development,” said Kurt Snodgrass, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Telecommunications with the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. “We have also made similar investments in Cisco Unified CallManager and applaud the work Polycom has done to integrate VSX into the IP telephony backbone. Now it will be easier for educators to operate video online to different classrooms around the world without having to become AV integrators and focusing instead on teaching. From an IT perspective I like the native integration because I now have consolidated reporting and one stop support and accountability.”</p>
<p>Pricing and Availability
The Polycom VSX SCCP software upgrade is now available for order worldwide through Polycom Certified Partners authorized to sell Polycom video products. There is no charge for customers with VSX systems currently covered by Polycom VSX service contracts. For those customers not under contract who wish to purchase a VSX SCCP software upgrade, the suggested retail price is AUD $2,694.</p>
<p>Cisco integrated VSX systems are also now available for order through Polycom Certified Partners authorized to sell Polycom video products at the same suggested retail pricing as other VSX systems, i.e. VSX 3000 – AUD $6,737, VSX 5000 – AUD $5,389, VSX 7000s – AUD $9,433, 7000e – AUD $12,128, and the VSX 8000 – US $17,519</p>
