Storage Industry Experts Rally Around New Snap Server 500 Series Platform

Sydney, Australia – April 7, 2006 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced that, VeriTest, a testing service of Lionbridge (NASDAQ: LIOX), has finished testing the new Snap Server 550 and 520 networked storage solutions against competing departmental storage products from Hewlett Packard and Dell. In the report, the VeriTest team states that the Snap Servers delivered the highest throughput scores as well as response times that were more than three times faster than the HP DL100 G2 and Dell PowerVault 745N. Similarly, storage industry experts at Toigo Partners International and Taneja Group reviewed the new Snap Server 500 Series platform and issued reports on customer benefits with Taneja Group calling this “a critical transition point in price/ performance and features” for mid-range storage offerings.

The Snap Server 500 Series, introduced in February 2006, is a high-performance, high-value 1U storage family designed for the distributed technology environment including workgroups, remote offices, independent departments, small businesses, and medium-sized enterprises worldwide. This family, which is the first mid-range NAS solutions built on AMD’s 64-bit Opteron architecture, supports both Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial ATA (SATA) disk drives, depending on customer requirements.

According to the Veritest report titled “Snap Server NAS Performance Study” that tested the Snap Server 550 and 520 servers in a RAID 5 configuration using NetBench 7.0.3, “the Snap Server 550 and 520 placed first and second with the highest throughput scored of the four NAS devices tested. Specifically, the Snap Server 550 and 520 posted the greatest peak throughput scores of 699.3 Mbits/second and 589.502 Mbits/second respectively compared to rates of 204.5 Mbits/second and 187.342 Mbits/second for the competition.” The complete report can be downloaded at www.snapserver.com or www.veritest.com/clients/reports/adaptec.

Toigo Partners’ TPI Technologies lab completed an even more thorough testing of the Snap Server 550 using industry standard performance characterisation tools, IOzone and IOmeter, that encompassed both iSCSI and file-based performance testing, as the Snap Server 500 Series platform supports both block and file data on a single server.

According to Jon Toigo, “The introduction of the Model 550 Snap Server from Adaptec is nothing short of a watershed in the history of Network Attached Storage. This product blends the high performance, functionality and manageability that one would expect from an ‘enterprise class’ NAS solution with the economy of design and price tag usually associated with products aimed at small-to-medium-sized business requirements and budget. In every category of our standard assessment methodology, the 550 is a clear and undisputed winner. We give an enthusiastic recommendation to any business seeking to drive the cost out of storage infrastructure while providing best-in-class support for common applications and workloads.” The report is available at www.snapserver.com.

Taneja Group also completed a review of the new Snap Server 500 Series with a special focus on industry trends and customer needs concluding that “the Snap Server 500 series is well positioned for serious consideration in a wide range of mid-range workloads and distributed enterprise deployments.”

“The work that has gone into the Snap Server 550 in terms of performance gains, SAS/SATA flexibility, file/block convergence and enterprise software bundling makes it stand-out versus the competitive landscape,” the report notes. “The latest Snap Server solution demonstrates that this product line still deserves its reputation as a resilient, forward-looking technology platform.” A copy of this report is also available at www.snapserver.com.
