Sydney, July 13, 2005 – Mitel®, a leading provider of IP communications solutions, today announced the most significant increase in its addressable market to date with the introduction of Release 6 of the Mitel 3300 ICP, its premier IP communications platform.

This release sees the solution scale up and down in size and simultaneously function as both an IP-PBX and an Applications & Services Gateway (ASG), which interoperates with the Microsoft Live Communications Server (LCS) and related applications. It delivers enhanced network management, increased security and supports new innovative IP desktop devices.

Gwilym Funnell, Mitel Australia Managing Director commented, “Release 6 of the Mitel 3300 ICP gives you even more options to secure the voice traffic on your network, while delivering the tightest possible integration into Microsoft Live Communications Server. Mitel makes integrating IP Telephony into your Microsoft environment a breeze.”

Don Smith, CEO, Mitel elaborated, “IP based solutions must address the specific communications needs of customers, regardless of size, unlock the benefits of business process improvement and be simple to use, implement and manage”.

“As the next phase of Mitel’s market leading Networked Business strategy, Release 6 combines IP-PBX and ASG functionality to seamlessly interoperate with Microsoft LCS and associated applications.”

“By merging highly scalable, secure communications based applications with presence and collaboration Mitel enables a new intuitive user experience, intra- and inter-business addressing the needs of the individual, user communities and organizations as a whole.”

The 3300 ICP, Release 6 offers Mitel’s customers the benefits of the following new platforms, devices and features:

Increased Scale
Release 6 supports the introduction of the 3300 ICP CX controller, which scales down to provide a cost optimized solution for under 10 users for the very significant SME market and the networked branch offices of larger enterprises. The release also scales up with an individual controller supporting 5,600 registered and 1,400 concurrent users to a maximum single cluster of 65,000 concurrent users across over 250 networked nodes. The number of ACD agents has also been boosted to 250 active agents per controller.

The new CX platform supports a maximum of 64 phones and can be configured for up to 12 LS and 8 CLASS Analog phone ports. All standard 3300 telephony features and embedded applications are available on the CX platform. The CXi version of the controller includes an embedded16-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch.

Support for Microsoft’s Live Communications Server 2005 (LCS)
Release 6 enables all 3300 ICP controllers to interoperate with Microsoft LCS and the Microsoft Office Communicator client using the ISO Computer Supported Telecommunications Applications (CSTA) standard and the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) encoded in the Extensible Markup Language (XML). As an ASG the 3300 ICP also offers the features of LCS and the Office Communicator to legacy PBX environments and can deliver LCS enabled Mitel applications extending the Microsoft Presence and Federation capability throughout Mitel’s applications portfolio.

Management Enhancements
Release 6 introduces several enhancements to Mitel’s Enterprise Manager Solution (EMS) including the availability of System Data Synchronization (SDS). SDS is a new network level intelligence capability, which allows a network of 3300 ICPs to automatically share system level data reducing the time to provision multiple 3300 ICP nodes. Synchronization occurs in real-time ensuring that changes to network data are propagated consistently and accurately across the network significantly reducing time and management costs while simplifying network deployment. In addition, enhancements have been made to improve user provisioning and Automatic Route Selection tables.

Improved Security
Release 6 introduces improved security with the adoption of Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption, based on Secure RTP (SRTP), for the voice stream. Call control signaling is encrypted across all IP desktop devices using a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) as is the media signaling between IP trunks and within the 3300 ICP itself.

Support for the Mitel 5235 IP Phone and Mitel Navigator
Augmenting Mitel’s award winning portfolio of desktop devices, Release 6 announces the availability of the Mitel Navigator and the Mitel 5235 IP Phone.

The Mitel Navigator is a new communications device that redefines convergence at the desktop by integrating with the users’ existing computer monitor. With its new form factor, it delivers an experience that can be personally tailored to the needs of the user. To simplify task navigation, nine programmable keys can be used to access a variety of user-defined telephony functions and computer applications. Using the Navigator keypad or a mouse, these buttons invoke telephony features or launch PC applications or business processes. Multiple appearances give the user the ability to access up to 27 commands and tasks. The Mitel Navigator also supports PC speakers and headphones that can be used with the embedded full-duplex microphone and speakers for hands-free or conference calling.

The 5235 IP Phone features a large, back-lit touch-screen and provides users with real-time access to applications and services such as web browsing, directory management and visual voice mail. Eight fixed feature keys and multiple touch screens provide convenient access to features such as call history-logs, contacts list, and many customizable, self-labeling user settings.

Both the Mitel Navigator and the 5235 IP phone can be used for user specific tasks in various vertical market applications. They can function as ACD Agent or Supervisor devices, in hot desking applications or as remote Teleworker phones. Both devices support SIP, Mitel’s Protocol (MiNet) and XML device control.

Embedded Messaging Enhancements
To support Mitel’s growth in the Middle East and Asia, the embedded messaging suite of the 3300 ICP has been expanded to include the Arabic, Farsi and Mandarin languages.
