TIBCO Supports JBI Specification for SOA Interoperability with Project ‘Matrix’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TIBCO SUPPORTS JBI SPECIFICATION FOR SOA INTEROPERABILITY WITH PROJECT ‘MATRIX’

New Platform Will Enable Deployment and Management of JBI-based Services Using Java EE, .NET and other development technologies

SAN FRANCISCO, 2005 JavaOne Conference, June 29, 2005 – TIBCO Software Inc. (NASDAQ: TIBX), a leading business integration and process management software company that enables real-time business, today announced Project ‘Matrix’ — a deployment platform for service-oriented architecture (SOA) that enables composite applications to be developed, deployed and managed as distributed, standards-based services. As part of Project Matrix, TIBCO also announced support for the Java Specification Request (JSR) 208, the Java Business Integration (JBI) specification. The first product shipped as part of Project Matrix will include a JBI service container, which will be available to early access customers in the first half of 2006.

JBI is becoming widely accepted as the interoperability standard for SOA, helping drive SOA infrastructure adoption much like Java EE drove the adoption of Java-based applications. The software industry has recognized that Java EE and .NET are not well-suited for implementing a distributed, enterprise-wide SOA. In addition, organizations are also realizing Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies are mainly proprietary and lack a common standard for hosting Java EE and .NET as part of an SOA.

Project Matrix addresses these issues by enabling companies to host internally developed and third party functionality as JBI-compliant services as well as assemble and deploy these services as composite applications. By supporting JBI as the standard for SOA infrastructure, Project Matrix will provide interoperability and reduce the cost and complexity of implementing and administering an enterprise-wide SOA.

“JBI is critical for a standards-based SOA,” said Joe Keller, vice president of Product Marketing, Sun Microsystems, Inc. “By working together with TIBCO and other leading software vendors to offer JBI as the standard, we’re delivering on the promise of service-based architectures and giving customers choice, flexibility and reduced complexity.”

Project Matrix will give customers a unified and technology-agnostic deployment platform for JBI-based services that includes:

A fully distributed implementation of the JBI normalized message router (NMR), built on TIBCO’s proven enterprise backbone technology for messaging and Web services
A service container for hosting Java EE and .NET logic as JBI “service engines” (SE), including support for leading Java EE-based application servers
Pre-packaged service engines to improve developer productivity, such as a XSLT transform SE
Support for the full breadth of user interface technologies required by enterprises, including Java and .NET, portals and Web browsers
TIBCO General Interface (GI) as a way to deliver AJAX-compliant rich clients in a browser, clients optimized for SOA
Integration with TIBCO’s monitoring and management framework, providing end-to-end and top-down visibility, distribution management as well as integration with third party system management products, such as HP OpenView
Access to TIBCO’s suite of products as services, including the use of TIBCO BusinessWorks for service orchestration and business integration

“By supporting JBI, we’re adopting a standard for SOA interoperability that makes services portable and protocol-independent,” said Ram Menon, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, TIBCO. “By combining the benefits of JBI with TIBCO’s proven strengths in distributed real-time backbones, event-driven and service-oriented architectures, integration and presentation technologies, Project Matrix will give customers technology-neutral infrastructure that promotes enterprise-scale and reuse.”
