Barracuda Networks Invests in Australia and New Zealand with New Office and Regional Manager

Cupertino, Calif., and Melbourne, Australia, Nov. 18, 2004 – Barracuda Networks, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class spam firewall solutions, today announced the opening of its regional headquarters based in Australia. Located in Melbourne, Barracuda Networks, Ltd., will provide sales, product support, training, and implementation support to Barracuda Networks customers, partners, and prospects in Australia and New Zealand.

“We have been anxious to bring the Barracuda Spam Firewall to Australia and the surrounding regions and we are confident that businesses there will benefit from the same outstanding service and support that our customers worldwide have come to rely on,” said Dean Drako, president and CEO of Barracuda Networks.

Since the Australian Spam Act went into effect in April 2004, there has been a significant decrease in spam activity by the country’s worst spammers according to the Spamhaus Project, a, international spam monitoring group. Email users in the region remain vulnerable to the global spam deluge even though the majority of spam sent worldwide each day does not originate in Australia

“Of all the countries that have spam legislation in place, Australia seems to have the most effective measures enacted thus far,” added Drako. “However like the rest of the world, Australian legislation goes only as far as its borders and it does not deter spam coming from other parts of the world. With its powerful feature set and ability to identify and block spam written in a variety of languages, we believe the Barracuda Spam Firewall will be a crucial tool in helping businesses in Australia to regain control of their email.”

Paul Oxley will lead Barracuda Networks, Ltd., Australia, as regional manager and will oversee sales strategy, marketing and channel development in Australia and New Zealand. Prior to joining Barracuda Networks, Oxley worked for six years at Wick Hill Ltd, a leading European distribution company, as commercial director. He brings more than 10 years of industry experience working with security vendors to build reseller channels. Oxley holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Huddersfield, England.

Barracuda Networks, Ltd., Australia is located at:
Level 28, 303 Collins Street
Melbourne Victoria, 3000

Barracuda Networks, Ltd., Australia is the third regional headquarters the company has launched since July. Barracuda Networks also has regional headquarters in Shanghai, China and Basingstoke, England as well as a satellite office in British Columbia, Canada.
