HP Helps National Foods Limited Develop Strategic Platform for Business Growth

 • 12 January, 2004 13:27

Melbourne, 12 JANUARY 2004 National Foods Limited (NFL), Australia's largest publicly listed dairy company, has just begun the final phase of a strategic refresh to its IT infrastructure. The massive overhaul has involved the implementation of a number of Hewlett Packard (HP) solutions, the final phase of which includes an entirely new server and storage environment.

NFL's hardware contract with HP is worth approximately AUD$4 million. The five month implementation will continue through to February 2004.

HP was chosen based on its capability to provide a one stop shop for hardware, services and finance that could scale with the company's growth.

Specifically, NFL will be deploying HP mid range Unix servers to run the company's core business applications, including MFG/pro for manufacturing and processing management and the company's internally developed applications. The deployment includes one HP XP Disk Array, two HP EVA Disk Arrays and four HP rp8400 servers. NFL has also begun the first phase in the implementation of a custom built HP Storage Area Network (SAN) solution.

"Information technology is a critical component of NFL's business," said Greg Collings, Group Applications and Technology Services Manager, NFL.

"The aim of this implementation is to free-up the IT department to manage incremental business growth and increase the company's processing capacity to allow NFL to service its client base to a standard above the competition.

"NFL’s 10 year relationship with HP is part of a long-term business strategy to streamline IT infrastructure and prepare the company for growth," he said.

Steve Williamson, Manager, Business Critical Systems, HP Australia, said, "The HP Unix and storage deployments will provide NFL with a high level of availability and redundancy, two components which are essential for safeguarding the company’s critical business data.

"Our close partnership with NFL reflects our customer oriented approach, and we look forward to continuing the relationship and helping the company develop a platform for business growth."
