Australian information security industry recognised at the annual AusCERT awards

A DeLorean car straight out of Back to the Future made an appearance at the AusCERT gala dinner as the organisation celebrated its 14th annual conference and awards night on the Gold Coast.

The AusCERT awards are designed to recognise Australian professionals who work at the frontline of information security.

Delegates were entertained by MC Jazz Twemlow and `unusualist’ Raymond Crowe.

The AusCERT award winners were:

Individual Excellence in Information Security: Peter Fowler, South Australian government

Fowler was recognised for his contribution to improving security and fostering resilience in South Australia. He also received the award for his contribution to ICT emergency management.

Organisational Excellence in Information Security: The Shadowserver Foundation

The Shadowserver Foundation was recognised for helping to put a stop to high stakes cyber crime in the information age.

Best Security Initiative: Let’s Encrypt

Let’s Encrypt was recognised for providing a free, automated and open certificate authority which is run for the public’s benefit.

This was followed by the SC Magazine Benchmark Awards. The award seeks to recognise the best security projects or management of incidents of 2014.

Superpartners CISO Darren Simpson won for leading a three year cyber security project to ensure the financial information of 6.5 million Australians was protected. Superpartners experienced a 20 per cent decrease in security incidents.
