Bitdefender Releases 2013 Line of Antivirus Products

Bitdefender's 2013 antivirus software comes with several new features designed to help block new types of malware.

Bitdefender released its 2013 line of products on Tuesday: Antivirus Plus 2013 ($49.95), Internet Security 2013 ($69.95), and Total Security 2013 ($79.95). Pricing varies upon length of protection and how many PCs you want to protect, but those listed here include 1 year for up to 3 PCs.

Among the several updates, Bitdefender 2013 debuts with a few new features:

  • Bitdefender Safepay: A secure standalone Web browser that automatically opens when you visit banking and shopping sites. The browser is run in what is commonly called a sandbox mode, a separate virtual environment on your PC. Since the browser is isolated, it prevents many types of attacks that malware uses to capture your sensitive activity, such as keystroke logging, phishing, and network spoofing.
  • USB Immunizer: Scans and cleans any malware found on USB drives and other removable media, from CDs to remote network drives. It's designed to protect you from threats like the Flame virus, and should help keep you from accidentally carrying malware and infecting PCs when you connect your USB drive or other removable media.
  • Device Anti-Theft: Included only in the Total Security edition, this tool will allow you to remotely lock, wipe, and locate your laptop--similar to those “find my phone” apps you may have used on your smartphone or tablet.

Bitdefender 2013 also includes updates to the Parental Controls, which lets you track nearly all your children’s digital activity: Web browsing, application use, Facebook activity, instant messages, and even SMS text messages and calls on their mobile phones.

The Safebox feature, an online service to securely store and share sensitive files across iPhones, iPads, Android phones, and PCs, has been updated as well.

Bitdefender 2013 is compatible with Windows XP SP3 and later, and is one of the first to officially support Windows 8. The company also offers protection for Macs and Linux machines, but via separate products.
