Websense Positioned as a Leader in Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway

 • 15 January, 2010 21:14

Sydney, Jan 14, 2010 - Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN) today announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned Websense as a leader in its recently released "Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway."(i) The firm evaluated Websense® Web Security Gateway, with its real-time Web content analysis that instantly categorises new and dynamic content to identify and protect against emerging threats, enabling companies to safely take advantage of the dynamic Web. Vendors in the Magic Quadrant are evaluated based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision.

"We're pleased to see that Websense is in the Leaders Quadrant for secure Web gateways," said Gordon Shevlin, EVP at Fishnet, a Websense channel partner. "We've seen great success with the Websense Web Security Gateway at our joint customer sites. With its real-time scanning, deep Web security intelligence and built-in data loss prevention technology, the Websense solution effectively enables our customers to safely use the dynamic Web while ensuring that their essential information is still protected. We expect to see continued growth in this market and in our business with Websense."

Websense Web Security Gateway provides features that are unique in the industry, including real-time detection across more than 90 URL categories; built-in industry-leading data loss prevention technology; and the flexibility to choose appliance, security-as-a-service (SaaS), or hybrid deployment models that allow organisations to transparently adapt their Web 2.0 security solution -- thereby reducing the complexity and total cost of ownership. Businesses are increasingly choosing the Websense Web Security Gateway because of its ease of use and security effectiveness. In fact, in a previous report, Gartner estimated that Websense had nearly four times the Secure Web Gateway worldwide market share of the next nearest competitor in 2008 based on total security revenue. (ii)

"We are honoured to be recognised in the Leaders Quadrant for secure Web gateways," said John McCormack, president, Websense. "We believe this recognition validates the aggressiveness we have put into making our long-term strategy a reality -- helping businesses safely embrace the transformative nature of SaaS and Web 2.0 applications with a solution that delivers the best modern security and the lowest total cost of ownership in the market today."

Websense Web Security Gateway enables organisations to safely use the Web for business even as it is evolving from a static resource to a dynamic communication platform. The Web today increasingly employs dynamic content and interactive elements. The real-time content classification and security scanning of the Websense Web Security Gateway, coupled with outbound content control through built-in data loss prevention technology, provides users with unparalleled protection from dynamic, Web-based threats that can compromise companies' essential information. The Websense Web Security Gateway makes the Web safer and more productive for businesses by securely enabling Web 2.0 and simplifying Web management and reporting.
