Symantec Phishing Report - August 2009

<p>Good afternoon,</p>
<p>Here is the August Phishing Report from Symantec. This report reviews phishing activity throughout the month of July.</p>
<p>A close observation of phishing tactics in Asia Pacific this past month revealed some interesting highlights:</p>
<p>• Symantec observed a 52 percent in phishing attacks when compared to June</p>
<p>• The number of phishing URLs generated using automated phishing toolkits soared to 63 percent in July, an increase of 150 percent</p>
<p>• The number of free web hosting services used for developing phishing sites increased significantly, with more than 130 used in July, accounting for 6 percent of all phishing attacks</p>
<p>• There was a 17 percent decrease in non-English phishing sites</p>
<p>• Symantec observed an increase in attacks employing fraudulent use of hijacked web pages. These pages appear legitimate, offering intended victims a false sense of security</p>
