<p>Here is the August State of Spam Report from Symantec. This report reviews spam activity throughout the month of July.
A close observation of spam tactics in Asia Pacific this past month revealed some interesting highlights:</p>
<p>• Spam volumes remain high and image spam continues to have an impact, reaching 17 percent of all spam in July</p>
<p>• Symantec observed a new variant of 419 spam where spammers tried to exploit VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services</p>
<p>• Health spam decreased by 17 percent while product and 419 spam increased by eight and three percent respectively</p>
<p>• Spam and malware campaigns relating to Michael Jackson and President Obama have continued</p>
<p>• The number of spammers utilising the launch of the new Harry Potter movie to create spam was significant</p>
<p>• Symantec observed a wave of popular subject lines that continue to reappear in spam messages</p>
<p>• There was a trend towards Spammers claiming to offer solutions that eavesdrop on other peoples phones</p>
